And the CPBO Pro Bono Partner Awards Go To…

CPBO wPartnershipill present the 2015 CPBO Pro Bono Partner Awards, recognizing innovative team approaches to pro bono work involving in-house legal departments, tonight at the PBI Annual Dinner in New York City. The PBEye is proud to congratulate the recipients:

  • CPBO Pro Bono Partner Award – Large Law: BNY Mellon**, White & Case*, and the National LGBT Bar Association for their innovative, high-impact collaboration; and
  • CPBO Pro Bono Partner Award – Small Law: Best Buy Co., Inc. ** and Volunteer Lawyers Network (VLN) for their decade-long collaboration.

BNY Mellon and its partners have been selected as recipients of the 2015 CPBO Pro Bono Partner Award – Large Law, which recognizes a partnership that includes at least one legal department of 50 or more lawyers, for the Online LGBT Tax Resource. The result of more than 500 hours of work by attorneys at BNY Mellon and White & Case, the Online LGBT Tax Resource is the first and only online compilation of state-by-state tax information for LGBT families. The partnership illustrates the incredible impact a few dozen attorneys, working together and utilizing technology, can have on thousands across the U.S.

The 2015 CPBO Pro Bono Partner Award – Small Law, which recognizes a partnership that includes only legal departments with 49 or fewer lawyers, will be presented to Best Buy and VLN for their collaboration on VLN’s Housing Court Project and its Conciliation Court Clinic. Best Buy volunteers have developed tremendous expertise and skills staffing both clinics regularly over many years, which enables VLN to refer them the most difficult cases. Together, VLN and Best Buy have assisted hundreds of clients on critical legal issues.

The PBEye congratulates the CPBO Pro Bono Partner Award recipients on their continued dedication to increasing access to justice. We look forward to celebrating their accomplishments at the PBI Annual Dinner! If you are interested in supporting the Annual Dinner, please contact Kelly Simon (202.729.6691) for more information. We hope to see you there!
