Party for Pro Bono
While in Chicago co-hosting a Clinic in a BoxSM Program, CPBO staff had the pleasure of attending the Public Interest Law Initiative’s (PILI) annual pro bono reception. The reception serves several functions, including honoring the 34 Illinois law firms and 10 legal departments named to PILI’s 2013 Pro Bono Recognition Roster and raising funds in support of PILI’s Pro Bono Initiative Program. The legal departments named to the roster were:
Allstate Insurance Company**
Aon plc (Aon Corporation)**
Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association
Caterpillar Inc.**
Deere & Company**
Exelon Corporation**
JPMorgan Chase & Co.
McDonald’s Corporation**
Northern Trust
United Airlines, Inc. (United Continental Holdings, Inc.)**
CPBO enjoyed the opportunity to talk with representatives from many of the local legal departments dedicated to pro bono. All in attendance had the great honor of hearing the featured speaker Illinois Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas Kilbride. This is a particularly exciting time for in-house pro bono in Illinois given the recent rule amendment by the Illinois Supreme Court eliminating unnecessary restrictions on limited license in-house attorneys providing pro bono legal services.
Toasting the recent rule change in the picture below are PILI Executive Director Michael Bergmann, Assistant General Counsel at Deere & Company Lisa McCraw, Chief Justice Kilbride, CPBO Director Eve Runyon, and CPBO Assistant Director Shannon Graving.
