Pro Bono As We See It
January 4, 2011

Prominent Pro Bono

Our friends at the The National Law Journal have announced their annual Pro Bono Awards, and we were delighted to see Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge® Signatories Reed Smith; McCarter & English; Hunton & Williams; Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll; Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi; and Steptoe & Johnson LLP recognized for their outstanding pro bono work!

PBI’s own Esther Lardent was quoted in the story, saying “If the American economy gets a cold, poor people get pneumonia.”  The article goes on to note, “Her point was that, for all the pain this dreadful economy has inflicted on the legal profession, things are much worse for society’s downtrodden.”  It’s truly encouraging to see the ongoing commitment of law firms to pro bono work, especially in challenging times.

These awards mark a clear indication of pro bono as a measure of law firm stature, and recent  mentions from Law360 and Financial Times signal that the media is taking note of the importance of pro bono at large law firms.

We hope you’ll take note, too, of the firms that were recognized by NLJ.  Be sure to check out all the articles, here.  You’ll be inspired!
